An Easter Getaway to York

Easter may be a time for celebration and receiving tons Easter eggs (perfect excuse to eat lots of chocolate) but here in the UK, it's a chance to have a long weekend if you're lucky enough to get Bank Holidays off work and school.

I was pleasantly surprised with an Easter trip by my wonderful boyfriend who assured me that even though I didn't know where I was going, that I would enjoy a getaway somewhere in the UK. Surprises scare me therefore, I began to guess where we were off to.

My guesses varied from Wales and Bath to somewhere beside the sea...my guesses were incorrect.

York. A place of pure British history. Beautiful scenery, tiny boutique shops and lots of secret side roads with so much to offer.

Spending my Easter weekend in somewhere with so much to see and do made me realise that visiting a different place for a weekend is so relaxing. It does amazing things for you as you're not focusing on anything that may be a stress in your life. Going here took my mind of work and university which were causing me a lot of overthinking before we went.

Oh and hot chocolates are a complete game changer, just look at it...

Aside from the cute tea shops, boutique shops and traditional British Pubs, me and Oliver decided to drive out into the Yorkshire Moors to go and see a waterfall that we had seen online. It looked like such a tranquil place and the perfect backdrop for blog pictures.

Unfortunately, we didn't get to see the waterfall as when we arrived, we didn't know which way we were supposed to be walking. In the middle of nowhere without a phone signal wasn't what we were expecting however, we made the most of the beautiful day and continued to walk in the countryside.

*HARRY POTTER FANS BRACE YOURSELVES*

Walking downhill and towards groups of people, we wondered what everyone was walking towards so we carried on and came across a tiny little countryside train station filled with visitors taking pictures and waiting for the next steam train. I took pictures of this station imagining exactly what it would've been like to get a steam train to somewhere as beautiful and quaint as that little town hidden in the Yorkshire countryside.

Oliver and I being huge Harry Potter fans, he spotted that the station looked awfully similar to Hogsmeade Train Station and to our surprise, it was indeed!

It was such a pleasure to stumble upon such a little gem in the Yorkshire Moors without any prior knowledge of it even being there. This was definitely one of my highlights of the trip and it really was worth the drive out there (I'm convinced it was meant to be).

For anyone interested, this train station is called Goathland Train Station in Yorkshire and if you find yourself going through Yorkshire, go and check it out as it's a really pleasant place. If you're lucky, you might even see a steam train go through that looks like the Hogwarts Express!

I had such a wonderful 3 days in York and I'm so glad that Oliver and I got to spend our Easter break visiting such a friendly town. Sometimes it's definitely worth visiting towns within your own country as I for one haven't seen all of it yet. There really are some beautiful places to see in the UK.
